Built for masjids, given to masjids
OpenMasjid Solutions is a non-profit, community-run project. We write software that masjids need, we give it away, and we keep the source open so it can never be taken back.
Why we do it
Why it’s free
A masjid is usually running on donations and volunteers. When the prayer-times screen, the donation page and the fee reminders each come with a monthly bill, that money leaves the community every month, forever — for software that a volunteer could host on a mini-PC in the office cupboard.
So we build the software once and give it to everybody. There is no paid tier holding a feature back, no per-screen licence, and no account you have to keep alive. A masjid in a rented unit with no budget gets exactly what a large centre gets.
It also means we never hold your data. There is no server of ours in the middle: the machine is yours, the donations records are yours, the families’ details are yours. We could not sell them or lose them if we tried.
The licence
Why we chose the AGPL
One friendly paragraph, because it matters and it’s usually explained badly.
Every one of our projects is released under the GNU AGPL-3.0. You are free to use it, change it, and pass it on. The one condition: if you change it and then run your changed version as a service other people use, you have to publish your changes under the same licence.
That is the whole point. It means an improvement made by one masjid — a better timetable layout, a fix for a card reader — comes back to every masjid, instead of disappearing into a private fork. Nobody can take this work, close it up, and sell it back to the community it was written for.
- Use it for anything Any masjid, any school, any country. Commercial use included.
- Read every line The whole thing is on GitHub. Nothing is hidden, including how your data is handled.
- Change it and share it Fork it, fix it, send it back. Improvements stay open.
- It can’t be closed The public tree is always AGPL-3.0. Contributions come with a CLA that keeps that true.

Hasan Ismail created OpenMasjid. Qari Ijaz runs the project and Osman Sayed leads the development — and the three of them are who you reach when you write in.
